Job Summary:
The Urology Nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients with urological conditions. This role requires extensive knowledge and expertise in urology nursing to ensure the delivery of high-quality and patient-centered care. The Urology Nurse will collaborate with the healthcare team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for urology patients.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform comprehensive assessments of urology patients, including medical history, physical examination, and psychosocial evaluation.
2. Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs and urology treatment protocols.
3. Administer medications, treatments, and procedures specific to urology care, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to established protocols.
4. Assist in urological procedures and surgeries, providing pre- and post-operative care and patient education.
5. Monitor and evaluate patients' urological conditions, including urinary catheter management, urine output assessment, and stoma care.
6. Educate patients and their families on urological conditions, treatment options, medication management, and lifestyle modifications.
7. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure seamless coordination of care, including physicians, surgeons, radiologists, and allied health professionals.
8. Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families regarding urological conditions, treatment expectations, and coping strategies.
9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including electronic medical records and documentation of nursing interventions.
10. Stay informed about new trends, research, and developments in urology nursing to enhance professional knowledge and practice.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
2. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is preferred.
3. Minimum of 2 years of experience as a registered nurse in a urology setting.
4. In-depth knowledge of urological conditions, treatments, and procedures.
5. Proficiency in performing urology assessments, including urinary catheterization, stoma care, and ostomy management.
6. Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities to address complex urological patient needs.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
8. Ability to handle high-pressure situations and prioritize patient care.
9. Proficient in using electronic medical record systems and other healthcare software.
10. Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical nursing standards.
